At Summit Utilities, our mission is to deliver safe, always-on natural gas service for essential, everyday needs like home heating, cooking, bathing, and more. To do that, we must operate, maintain, and continuously improve and invest in pipeline and infrastructure in areas where were operate, the communities and towns that you call home.
As a public utility company serving Texarkana, Redwater, Nash, and Wake Village, our rates are approved by the respective city councils. Earlier this month, a statement of intent was provided to each city, and on March 10, 2025, Summit presented the proposed rate increase to the Texarkana city council. The outcome of the new rates for a typical residential customer in each community are noted below. This information is based on a typical residential customer for the usage per month noted below. If approved, your bill will reflect these changes beginning May 1, 2025.
Texarkana: $16.20 increase per month for an average residential customer (avg. 36 Ccf
Nash: $14.84 increase per month for an average residential customer (avg. 31 Ccf)
Redwater: $16.19 increase per month for an average residential customer (avg. 36 Ccf)
Wake Village: $15.47 increase per month for an average residential customer (avg. 33 Ccf)
We’re committed to delivering safe, reliable natural gas to your home and community. We understand that any changes to rates can raise questions, so we want to be as transparent as possible about why this is happening and how it supports the quality service you rely on every day. It’s required by law that regulated utility rates be reasonable, the service they provide be safe and reliable, and that those utilities be allowed the opportunity to generate a fair and reasonable rate of return.*
Our existing rates have been in place since 2022, and as with most companies across Texas, we have experienced rising costs. Our proposed rate increase more accurately reflects our cost of business and is similar to rate requests other utilities in Texas are proposing. These changes are largely driven by inflation, economic conditions, and capital investments in our system, so we can provide you with service that’s there when you need it. The necessary services and investments funded by Summit’s rates include:
In Texas, cities served by utility companies like Summit play a big role in setting natural gas rates. Here’s how it works:
If a formal review happens, the utility will cover the costs for the city and itself, and these costs may later be included in the rates through a small surcharge.
There are a few reasons for the recent rate change:
Rising Costs
Like many businesses, Summit has seen higher costs for equipment, materials, and operations.
Investments in Safety
We are working to replace older pipelines and service lines to make sure our systems stay safe and reliable for everyone. These upgrades are required by state and federal regulations.
Reflecting Our Costs
Our rates need to better match the actual costs of delivering natural gas service to our customers.
We know rate changes impact everyone. While Summit’s filing will increase rates, it is paramount to Summit that we remain competitive and cost-effective throughout our service territory. Summit places great importance on our cost-effective, environmentally conscious service, and we will continue to do so.
Transparency
We’ve sent out communications, like emails, to keep you informed. If you have questions, our team is ready to assist.
Levelized Billing
We’re helping customers explore levelized billing, which spreads out payments evenly over the year to make managing bills easier.
Our Mission
These investments support our goal of delivering safe, reliable energy while meeting the needs of the communities we serve.
We know how much our customers rely on natural gas for heating, cooking, hot water, and more. We’re here to ensure it’s always available to you in a safe and dependable way. By continuing to invest in our system, we’re working to meet today’s needs while preparing for the future.
