Summit Utilities Arkansas Cleared in Arkansas Public Service Commission Investigation

Little Rock, Arkansas (September 1, 2023) - Summit Utilities Arkansas (Summit) puts our customers at the center of everything we do. We want to keep you informed with the latest information so we can best serve you.

On Friday, August 18, 2023, the Arkansas Public Service Commission (APSC) released a final order in its investigation into Summit’s natural gas costs and billing practices affirming that Summit did not violate any APSC rules and finding that Summit’s gas costs were just and reasonable

After a thorough investigation, the APSC found that Summit’s gas costs were based on its approved gas supply rate tariff, and the cost of gas was just and reasonable. The APSC found that gas costs rose 35% from 2021 to 2022.

The APSC found Summit did not violate any general service rules and found Summit corrected all billing errors that were at issue in the investigation.

Moving forward, Summit will provide the APSC with a quarterly report for two years.

Summit will continue to demonstrate a strong commitment to our customers and responsible business practices.

Since January 2023, Summit has made significant investments to improve our customers’ experience. In that time frame, Summit has hired 75 customer service representatives, with an additional 25 to be hired in September, bringing the total to more than 200 team members. The majority of that team has been and will continue to be hired in Arkansas.

Summit’s call wait times and billing accuracy are within the high standards Summit expects. When a customer calls, they are routed to a customer service representative, on average, in less than a minute, and our billing accuracy is more than 98%.

Summit puts customers at the center of everything we do, and we continue to evaluate and adjust our practices to optimize our customers’ experience.
