Summit Utilities Recognizes October as Energy Awareness Month, October 2nd as Energy Efficiency Day

Little Rock, Arkansas (October 2, 2024) – Summit Utilities (Summit) is reminding customers that October is National Energy Awareness Month, with Energy Efficiency Day observed on October 2nd. Energy efficiency not only helps reduce energy usage but can also lower your bills and keep your home comfortable throughout the cooler months.

“Our goal at Summit is to help our customers stay comfortable while saving energy and money,” said Fred Kirkwood, Chief Customer Experience Officer at Summit. “By taking small steps toward energy efficiency, especially during colder months, customers can reduce their energy usage which can lower their monthly bills.”

Here are a few simple steps from Summit to help you conserve energy this fall:

  • Ensure proper airflow: Keep furniture and objects away from your registers so warm air can circulate freely.
  • Prevent heat loss: Close dampers on unused fireplaces, keep garage doors closed, and seal windows and doors to prevent drafts and keep warm air inside.
  • Use natural heat: Open curtains on south-facing windows during the day to let sunlight naturally heat your home and close them at night to prevent cold drafts.
  • Adjust your water heater: Lower the temperature to 120°F to save energy while still having plenty of hot water.
  • Maintain your heating system: Schedule an annual inspection with a professional to ensure your furnace is running efficiently and ready for the season.

Summit also offers payment assistance programs in Arkansas and Oklahoma, as well as rebates for customers considering energy-efficient upgrades. If you’re thinking about upgrading to a new natural gas furnace, water heater, or installing a smart thermostat, Summit’s rebates can help you save money.
