Be Prepared for Winter Weather - Safety Checklist

In your hometown, winter weather may be a frequent occurrence, or it may come around occasionally. Either way, it’s worth making sure you’re prepared if severe weather is in the forecast, especially heavy winter storms, ice, or snow.

Always keep an eye on the weather forecast! Download your preferred weather source application on your smartphone for up-to-date weather at your fingertips.

If bad weather is in the forecast, make sure you have everything you need:

  • Check you've got enough medication and food in case it's harder to leave the house.
  • A large, clean water source like jugs or reusable bottles can be handy if the water supply is interrupted.
  • Utilize battery-powered lanterns or lamps in case of power loss. And have some spare batteries too!
  • Always keep emergency numbers nearby.
  • Take extra care if the ground is slippery. Wear shoes with a good grip and consider keeping salt and sand mixture on hand to grit paths.
  • Plan ahead when driving. Try to avoid going out in the car in bad weather events and make sure you follow advice on driving conditions in your area. If you do need to go out, pack up the following kit in case you get stuck: blankets, a bottle of water, some snacks, a shovel, a deicer or scraper, a mobile phone, and a charger.

At Summit, safety is at the forefront of all we do. We encourage you to do the same should you experience inclement weather in your area.
