LAWTON, Okla. – For Frank Myers, giving back isn’t just something he does—it’s who he is. Myers, a customer development representative at Summit Utilities, was recently honored with the company’s annual Citizen Award, recognizing team members who go above and beyond in serving their communities. His award reflects his commitment to volunteerism and the values that have guided him since childhood.
Myers is a dedicated volunteer with the United Way of Southwest Oklahoma, an organization he supports because of its strategic approach to creating lasting community impact.
“To make meaningful change, it’s not just about addressing one area of need,” said Myers. “Our community has many needs, and the United Way ensures donations are invested where they’re needed most and used effectively.”
From his early years, Myers was instilled with the belief that service is a responsibility. This mindset led him to earn a presidential leadership scholarship at Cameron University, where volunteer hours were not only encouraged but required. He graduated with a degree in psychology and a lifelong commitment to helping others.
Today, Myers remains deeply involved in his community, encouraging others to find a role that fits their skills and passions. “Whether you want to work with your hands to build something, or sort items at the food bank—there’s a place for everyone to serve,” he says.
One of Myers’ favorite initiatives is United Way’s Apprenticeship in Mentoring (AIM) program. The three-day event brings high school students together for job shadowing, exposure to trades and career paths, and hands-on community engagement, helping the next generation explore their futures.
In recognition of his service, Summit’s Citizen Award includes a $250 donation to a nonprofit of Myers’ choice, and it’s no surprise that he chose the United Way. Myers was selected from dozens of Summit employees who completed at least 20 hours of Volunteer Time Off (VTO) last year.
Myers’ story is a powerful reminder that leadership isn’t always about titles or recognition—it’s about showing up, giving back, and lifting others along the way.
