Winter ushers in the holidays and cozy evenings at home, but also colder temperatures that can drive up natural gas bills. We understand that a warm home is essential to your comfort and well-being — and that nothing should stand in the way of it.
We’re committed to connecting you with programs that can help ease the stress of winter utility costs. From our own services to resources available at the local and state level, these options are designed to help you manage energy expenses and keep your family comfortable all season long.
We understand that life is unpredictable. There are countless reasons for a late payment, and we’re here to help you navigate a path forward with a Delayed/Deferred Payment Agreement (DPA). When you enroll, we’ll divide your full balance into equal, monthly installments to be paid over a specific period. This allows for uninterrupted service and the opportunity to bring your account up to date.
To enroll in a flexible payment plan, call one of our representatives at 800-992-7552 (Arkansas and Texarkana) or 866-275-5265 (Oklahoma), Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
LIHEAP, a federal program, helps low-income households pay energy bills, manage energy crises, and arrange for weatherization and energy-related home repairs. It can be a critical resource for staying warm in the winter months. State-specific resources are as follows:
Arkansas
Fifteen community-based organizations (CBOs) operate LIHEAP in Arkansas, providing coverage across all 75 counties in the state. CBOs will be accepting applications on a first-come, first-served basis from January through April 30, 2026. Utilize the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment’s website to find contact information for the CBO in your community.
Oklahoma
Customers must apply for winter heating assistance from Oklahoma Human Services during open enrollment, beginning January 6, 2026. The energy assistance program will remain open until funds are depleted. Year-round aid is also available for those with lifesaving medical equipment or who would face a life-threatening situation in extreme temperatures due to a medical condition. Life-threatening energy crisis assistance can be requested by calling 405-522-5050.
Texas
LIHEAP-funded programs are integrated into the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs’ Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) and are administered year-round in all 254 counties in the state.
Beyond state-funded programs, we wanted to find a way to support our customers directly during the coldest months of the year. That’s why we created the Summit Heating Assistance Fund. The program helps customers in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and the Texarkana, Texas, area who are struggling to pay their heating bills. The fund is supported by contributions from Summit Utilities and by customers who generously donate through their monthly bills. These combined efforts allow us to provide eligible customers with up to $200 in aid to help cover past-due natural gas bills during the heating season, or until program funds are exhausted.
Program funds are administered by the Heart of Arkansas United Way (HAUW). To qualify for assistance, applicants must provide proof of Summit Utilities service in a qualifying area and a copy of a past-due bill showing the balance owed.
We recognize that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to paying bills, so we offer a variety of methods to suit your needs. Our easy-to-use online payment platform allows you to manage your account and pay your bill, as well as access helpful features and plans:
AutoPay
Automatically pay your bill on its due date each month with our AutoPay feature. Reliable and easy to use, it offers the peace of mind of knowing you’ll avoid late payments and fees.
Average Monthly Billing (AMB)
Take the guesswork out of your bills. For greater predictability for your natural gas bill, our AMB plan averages your monthly payments based on your most recent annual usage. This is especially helpful during winter months—when natural gas bills tend to be higher—to help alleviate the stress of unexpected spikes.
We know not everyone likes managing their bills online, so we also offer options to pay your bill by phone, by mail, or in person at an authorized retail location.
There are plenty of small things you can do to be proactive and help keep your winter energy consumption down. For home improvements, consider installing a high-efficiency furnace or water heater (view available rebates), caulking gaps around windows, and applying weatherstripping to door frames to keep warm air inside. In your day-to-day life, things like lowering the thermostat when you’re sleeping or away, setting ceiling fans to spin clockwise, or opening your curtains on sunny days can all help reduce your energy costs.
Winter energy costs don’t have to be stressful. By pairing these resources with simple energy-saving tips at home, you can keep your family warm without breaking the budget. If you have questions about your natural gas bill or ways to reduce your energy usage, we’re here to help.
