Little Rock, Arkansas (December 6, 2023) – Summit Utilities is announcing the grand opening of a new state-of-the-art Meter Shop in Maumelle, Arkansas. The Maumelle Meter Shop is a 10,000-square-foot facility that will test 15,000-20,000 gas meters annually to accurately measure the gas going through customers' homes. Summit invested over $3 million in creating the new local facility and has added five new positions to test customers' gas meters quickly and cost-efficiently. Since Summit’s acquisition, the company has added more than 300 jobs in Arkansas.  

"The new Maumelle Meter Shop will allow us to better serve our customers by having the ability to do meter testing in our own backyard," said Micah Edwards, Director of Measurement. "Customers will see a benefit because we can quickly test the meter if there are questions about its accuracy in serving their home.”

Before Summit constructed the Maumelle Meter Shop, meters from Arkansas and Oklahoma would be sent to Houston for testing. Meters that passed the testing would be shipped back to Arkansas and Oklahoma for use. The Maumelle Meter Shop, located at Summit's Maumelle Training Center, broke ground in November 2022 and was completed in December 2023.
